The Ark Agape Dental Clinic is a volunteer-powered ministry offering free and low-cost dental care to Highland Lakes residents in crisis. Born from a partnership between Hill Country Smiles, Agape Community Dental, and the Ark of Highland Lakes, the clinic exists to restore dignity and deliver healing one smile at a time.
How to get help:
Contact ARK of Highland Lakes:
After contacting ARK, you will be asked a series of questions to see if you qualify for our clinic and then placed on a waitlist to be scheduled for a screening appointment with one of our volunteer dentists. Our current screening waitlist is 2-4 months
Screening Appointment:
At the screening appointment you will be evaluated by one of our volunteer dentists. The dentist will go over any findings with you and discuss what the ACDC is capable of addressing. You will then be placed on our treatment waitlist. Our current treatment waitlist is 3-4 months. No treatment is performed on this day.
After Treatment:
When your treatment appointment is complete, you will be checked out at our front desk. If additional treatment is needed, you will be placed back on the treatment waitlist.
Smart Smiles Program for Students
Through this school-based initiative, we bring preventive dental care directly to Highland Lakes children at no cost to families. Follow-up care for complex cases is offered at a discounted rate through the Ark Agape Dental Clinic. We’re committed to creating brighter futures one child at a time.
School Eligibility:
Elementary and middle schools with at least 55% of their students on a free/reduced lunch program are eligible for the SMART Smiles Program. Schools districts interested in the program must also raise local community support (financial and volunteer)
Screenings:
On Screening Day, students who have obtained consent from their parents or legal guardians for dental treatment are screened by a volunteer dentist. They receive a dental report card that explains what areas of concern the dentist found and what preventive treatment the child will receive.
Treatment:
On Treatment Day, students are called by class to the treatment room. Here they meet their hygienist and receive a preventive dental cleaning, necessary dental sealants, and an application of fluoride varnish.
Follow Up:
For children requiring additional dental care, we will work with local dentists to give students and parents referrals to providers. A small treatment fund may be available to help children who cannot afford treatment.
