Walking with People from Crisis to Lasting Transformation

Shepherding is Ark’s relational care pathway that equips volunteers to walk alongside clients and families with prayer, encouragement, and consistent Christ-centered support.

Because No One Should Walk Alone

At Ark, we believe transformation happens best in relationship. Many of the families we serve are carrying loss, instability, trauma, or overwhelming circumstances. Practical help matters, but people also need someone willing to listen, pray, encourage, and walk with them over time.

Shepherding is how we invite the Church to step into that space.

Through Shepherding, trained volunteers become a steady presence in the lives of Ark clients and families, helping them feel known, supported, and reminded of God’s nearness in every season.

What Is a Shepherd?

A Shepherd is a Faithful Presence

A Shepherd is a trained volunteer who walks alongside an Ark client or family through relationship, prayer, encouragement, and care.

Shepherds are not counselors, case managers, or fixers. They are compassionate friends who listen well, pray faithfully, build trust, and stay connected to Ark’s larger care structure.

The Heart of Shepherding

We WRAP Around Families with Care

Shepherds help WRAP around clients and families through:

Walk — coming alongside them with consistency and compassion

Relationship — building trust through genuine connection

Advocacy — helping communicate needs and encouraging next steps

Prayer — covering each family in prayer and spiritual encouragement

Why It Matters

The relationship is the ministry.

When someone is walking through hardship, consistent care can become a bridge to hope. Shepherding helps clients experience the love of God not only through services, but through people who are willing to walk with them.

This is one way Ark lives out our mission to unite churches to provide refuge and reveal God’s love through action.
